For most first-time visitors to India, the Golden Triangle — Delhi, Agra, Jaipur — is the default starting point. It's the three cities connected by a triangle of highways, and it works. But there's a better version for Indian travellers and NRI pilgrims: do the triangle, then bolt on Varanasi and Ayodhya, and you've turned a sightseeing trip into something with a soul.
The classic triangle
- Delhi (1–2 days): Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, India Gate, and the lanes of Chandni Chowk. Don't skip a proper old-Delhi food walk.
- Agra (1 day): the Taj Mahal at sunrise — genuinely worth the early alarm — plus Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.
- Jaipur (2 days): Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and the bazaars of the old city.
The spiritual upgrade (why we do it this way)

- Mathura–Vrindavan: Krishna's land is only 1 hour from Agra — a natural same-day add.
- Varanasi + Ayodhya: fly or train to Varanasi, do Kashi Vishwanath and the Ganga Aarti, then Ayodhya's Ram Mandir.

Practical tips
- October–March only, unless you enjoy 40°C sightseeing.
- The Yamuna Expressway makes Delhi–Agra 3 hours flat — book a morning slot at the Taj to beat the haze and crowds.
- Jaipur deserves 2 nights, minimum — one day is a blur.
- Combine the Taj with Mathura (1 hr) rather than making it a separate trip later.
