Family travel lives or dies on two things: how long the drives are, and whether there's something for the kids at every stop. Gujarat scores unusually well on both. Good roads, short hops, mostly vegetarian food (a relief for Indian parents), and a genuinely kid-friendly mix of a giant statue, a lion safari, a science museum and a beach. Here's the plan that keeps everyone sane.
A 6-day family itinerary (short drives, big payoffs)
- Day 1 — Ahmedabad: arrive, then Science City (IMAX, exhibits, robotics) — the best jetlag-free first day in the state for kids.
- Day 2 — Statue of Unity (3 hrs): viewing gallery, jungle safari, Valley of Flowers, laser show. This is the trip's highlight for most kids.
- Day 3 — Drive to Gir (~6 hrs, break it at lunch): arrive Sasan Gir, relax at the resort.
- Day 4 — Gir safari: morning safari; for under-6s or nervous kids, Devaliya Safari Park's 40-minute near-guaranteed sighting is perfect.
- Day 5 — Diu (2 hrs): Nagoa beach, Diu Fort, ice-cream. Do-nothing day.
- Day 6 — fly out from Diu, or drive back to Ahmedabad.
Swap Diu for Saputara (lake boating, ropeway, toy train) if your kids prefer hills over beaches. Or add Saputara as day 6–7 from Surat.

Practical family tips
- October to March only, for the heat. If you must go in summer, build the trip around Saputara.
- Carry basic meds, sunscreen and hats — the sun is strong even in winter.
- Book the Statue of Unity and Gir permits in advance; both cap daily numbers.
- Most hotels serve proper vegetarian food and are happy to make mild/no-spice versions for kids. Just ask.
- Keep drives under 3 hours where possible — the plan above does this on 4 of 6 days.
